All right, so jazz (education) is it sοmething different from that? Is it somehow linked with
doing philosophy or it's another perspective?
No, no. I can try to make a link with perpetual things, but i need also to try to link together
the perspective of the general course on P4C, in which we try to present the Lipman
perspective - in particular, we are really interested in complex thinking, so we have to
facilitate critical thinking, creative thinking and caring thinking and that point has really a
lot to do with jazz.
Ok. You'll tell me in what ways it has...?
Ok. But before that, we always propose also laboratories to student who are obliged to
participate to them. What's happen when people have to do philosophy but he/she doesn't
like philosophy? This is the main commitment for us, because a lot of people think that they
like philosophy, but they do not; in fact they like themselves, the study of history, they like
a lot of things that are not philosophy. And a lot of people that think that they don't like
philosophy, in fact, are really wonderful philosophers. So we need to be able to attract
people that really don't understand that is not possible that you don't like philosophy,
because you really don't know what philosophy is. It is possible that we can create a new
meaning of philosophy together that could be useful in our life and could be interpreted as
our new philosophy. So for me is, in both cases, a provocation. If you are sure that you like
philosophy, we have to falsificate this: probably, you don't know what philosophy is & we
can discuss it together & vice versa ... So in a sense, I think that is never too late to try find
our way to be an active philosopher. And in that way, it could be useful at some point to
deal also with Kant or other philosophers that you can read or that can be interested to.
It's an opportunity. So, it's important to have a relation with history of philosophy as first
step.
As regard to the complex thinking that is the basis of the relation with jazz: I was interested
in creative thinking because my first studies were in critical thinking and the dimension of
caring thinking was really implied within my interest in disability and in well being and well
becoming – this is about the aspect of a life project that is main topic in disability studies –
and so the aspect of creative thinking was really becoming the most interesting for me in
this last part of my research and mainly trying to link creativity to dialogue. Dialogue is a
creativity process.
