of Bakhtin. Bakhtin speaks of polyphony & of the place of carnival and the place of

heterotopia and heterodoxia, so for me, is also going beyond dialogue and therefore jazz
is really interesting because it's not just a dialogue among instruments, it is attention to
our new polyphony that is a place for a different dialogue, in a new language. You have to

perceive the Babel and when you perceive the Babel, you have the possibility to create a

new language. So it's not just a dialogue but is also the need to create new «logism». And
so the improvisation is a way in which you try new «logism». Is not so sure, so safe…

… with much experience behind in teaching, in thinking, generally, not just improvisation

with experience behind it and technique maybe or combine those two because this is a
                   little bit different..

Yes in the book there is a chapter written by Eleonora Zorzi & me

(http://www.cambridgescholars.com/education-as-jazz) were we tried to define the
teacher as improviser and also see the question of when you can start to improvise

(because it seemed that in order to be an improviser you need to be in a way an expert, to
have a technique) and also the question of when do one could start to improvise. Ok?

Really improvisation is having in itself an antinomy. It’s a paradox, but you know, also

philosophy is a paradox, also dialogue is a paradox.

It seems that you need to have a lot of experience in order to know how to improvise but
in the other hand you need to have this fresh mind as if you know nothing in order to be

able to see things from a new perspective?

But I think that in a way you can interpret this as within a circle… so with the three
metamorphoses of Zarathustra: camel is experience and technique, lion breaks it all. By

improvising, you have to break the tradition, you have to try other things, you have to be
a lion but to you also need to be a child, just so to have creativity, look at with spontaneity.

The three metamorphoses are not three states the child being at the end. You have the

child that has also all the states inside it. So I think that improvisation is not a state. You are
not an improviser. You are an improvisative teacher, you are a teacher that shares the
profile of improvisation. And improviser is a person that is committed to improvisation, but

this is not a state. It's a disposition. It's an attitude. In that way you can start to be an

improvisor in every moment, because you always have an experience that could be used in
order to create new experience. In a way you cannot be decided to be an improviser. You
