After studying Fine Arts at the Beaux-Arts (DNSEP Art), Caroline Blanvillain undertook a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Fine Arts at the University of Paris 1 Sorbonne, before defending her thesis on “Portrait photographique et schizophrénie” in Aesthetics, Science and Technology of the Arts (Specialization in Fine Arts), at the University of Paris 8.
Today, she is a lecturer in Plastic Arts at the University of Montpellier, France. She is attached to the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Recherche en Didactique, Éducation et Formation (LIRDEF), a founding member of the SÆnS group (Sémiologie, Anthropologie, Echange, Sensible), an associate member of the AIAC lab, Arts des Images & Art Contemporain, Université Paris 8 and a member of RETiiNA.International.
As part of her Art and Culture mission at Montpellier University’s Faculty of Education, she develops partnerships with local cultural organizations. Each year, she organizes art exhibitions, artist residencies and meetings with the art world within the Faculty.
Her research focuses on three main areas: the image, the arts and the subject. She has published two books: Le Sujet à l’œuvre (L’Harmattan, 2021), Photographie et Schizophrénie (L’Harmattan, 2015) and co-edited the two volumes Voir et Montrer la guerre aujourd’hui 1, Visée(s) & 2, Vision(s) (L’Harmattan, 2019).
